What is Operation Earthquake?

Operation Earthquake is a campaign to oppose the proposed UK Government policy to end the sale of new petrol and diesel powered vehicles.

Currently the Government plans to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030, with all new cars and vans being fully zero emission from 2035.

The Government is also considering consultation responses on plans for motorcycles.  They propose to end the sale of new small petrol motorcycles by 2030, and larger new petrol motorcycles by 2035.

Our campaign opposes the sales ban on new internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) sales for all vehicle types.  We oppose the ban on any schedule.

We will not glue ourselves to roads, perpetrate criminal damage, incite violence, nor throw soup over priceless works of art.  There is no sense in causing inconvenience or hardship.  We do propose to make politicians understand that we will not vote for any candidate who supports the proposed ICEV sales ban.

Who is behind the campaign?

Operation Earthquake is a campaign initiated by the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG).  MAG surveyed motorcyclists, both members and non-members to gather views on proposals to end the sale of ICE motorcycles.  The result showed overwhelming opposition to the proposals.  The Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations (FEMA) did a similar survey which again showed an overwhelming opposition to a ICEV sales ban.

We could see that the proposals would not be reversed for motorcycles alone.  So, MAG formed the Transport Reality group to bring together organisations from other transport sectors who shared our position.   In order to fight the ban, support would need to come from a much larger and pool of stakeholders.

Membership of the organisations within the Transport Reality Group is not a requirement of the campaign.  If you share our opposition to the proposals for any vehicle type, please support Operation Earthquake.
